Strategic planning started with the team within Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei. The environmental team interviews each other and then develops concepts for a future reserve and nursery.

In 2016, I co-led a team taking over 75 indigenous youth to Silicon Valley, exposing them to young companies and emerging tech. New tools combined with traditional indigenous knowledge leads to extraordinary innovation.

In 2014 and 2015, I ran a weeklong design thinking bootcamp for Stanford Summer Session students. They learned about the process of designing new products and businesses through hands on experiences.

In 2015, I ran a pop-up class on leadership with my friend and colleague Rich Cox.

After I started boxing at the Naval Academy, I continued to train for tournaments while in the Navy. We hung a heavy bag in the helo hanger of our frigate so I could keep up with workouts even while underway.

In 2007 and 2008, I was the aide for VADM Fowler, who was the Superintendent of the Naval Academy at the time.

The 2013-14 class of fellows. We came from government, non-profits, education, media, big corporates and small start-ups to work on projects supercharged by design thinking.

This is hopefully a rare photo of me during a workshop - the less I'm talking and the more people are doing the better the creative output. In any classroom, I think teachers should keep lectures to 5-7 minutes max and prioritize well designed experiences.

In New Zealand, I hosted a handful of 3 day bootcamps for local leaders in government, tribal non-profits, and healthcare to learn the basics of design thinking. 2016

On my third visit to Africa (once to Nigeria, twice to Uganda) with Naval Academy midshipmen, we finally got it right. The first two visits we had a vague idea about 'volunteering', which was marginally valuable to those we visited. On the third visit, we were able to use the insights from the first two visits about what was actually needed and useful for the people we visited and bring a useful service - boxing classes. Those kids, most of them born in internal displacement camps due to the fighting caused by the Lord's Resistance Army, found a lot of relief and fun in the physical outlet of boxing.
